In what ways is pairs figure skating a metaphor for actual relationships?
-
You have to have trust your partner’s got a hold on you, trust him/her not to let you fall, trust him/her to catch you if you do. And if you mean something to your partner, s/he will be the soft place you land when you fall.

Love that one Mallory!
-
Passion readily converts into presence.
-
Paired skaters don’t get it work without daily practice or getting sloppy about they need to sync up to each other. A real relationship requires daily, routine hard work, and paying attention to each other and to all the details need to fit and move together.
-
I love wedding day advice… This one is fabulous.

Goes to show how just a tad bit of theatricality and emphasis, can turn some small thing into something that changes your whole life. I like him so much just from knowing this one thing about him!

A Twist on the Valentine’s Day Experiment
Legend has it that although Abraham Lincoln ate sparsely, he was particularly fond of a white cake made by his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Historians say she often made this cake for the president while they were courting and he always commented, “Mary’s white cake is the best I have ever eat…[Read more]

Cursed holiday
(for 20 years I never had a boyfriend, then my first boyfriend ever broke up with me on Valentine’s Day. #2 from the story ‘my second love’ proposed to me on valentines day. And my husband considers it pure consumerism and rejects it on the whole.)-
I have to agree with the hubby that it has become pure consumerism, although that is true for all other holidays these days. I reject it also. Romance and passion should be in the daily details. When they are not, we have an annual grand gesture of love offerings.
-
Hmmm… Put that way, sounds more like a grand gesture of obligation than love. I have not figured it out yet, but like the idea that there is a happy medium out there some where, some cute personal tradition. Feeding him breakfast with your fingers in the open air or something.
-
Agree! Love personal traditions.
